The LBJ Hospital is cooperating fully with the investigation of a security guard employee who has been arrested and prosecuted in connection with one of the major drug busts at the local Post Office.
That’s according to Stanley Iakopo, Human Resource Director at LBJ, when asked for a comment about the arrest of Ollie Schuster who claimed a box from the Post Office last Friday morning in which customs agents found more than 39 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. Court filings say the box was addressed to Ms. Shuster.
Iakopo said, “I want to address the concerning allegations regarding a potential involvement of an LBJ employee in a recent drug bust. We take these allegations very seriously and are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation by the authorities.”
He pointed out that LBJ has a strict zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and “We hold all employees to the highest standards of conduct and integrity.”
Iakopo added, “The safety of our patients and employees is our utmost priority, and we are committed to upholding the highest standards despite this ongoing case.”
Schuster is being held on bail of $500,000 and faces one counts of unlawful possession of controlled substances, methamphetamine with intent to distribute and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. She will be back in District Court August 7.
Stanley assured the hospital is dedicated to ensuring transparency throughout this process, and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation.
“Our priority remains providing exceptional care. and maintaining the trust placed in us by our patients and the public,” he said.
The arrest of an LBJ employee in connection with drugs has revived questions about the seven packages of crystalline methamphetamine that were found in LBJ Hospital mail in May of 2018.
No one was ever prosecuted in that case and no information was ever revealed about the investigation that was launched into the source and who was responsible.
