
In his address at the Manu’a Cession Day ceremony on Tuesday at Malaetele Avaloa, Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga reflected on how the world is at war, but we are at peace—a testament of how much we are blessed by God.
He urged that all present at the ceremony learn the words of the Manu’a anthem that was written by Tauili’ili, because “If you sing these words, you are from this land, the land of Manu’atele.”
The Governor recited the parting words of Tui Manu’a Elisara, “Ia Samoa outou, Ia Samoa foi matou,” which translates “You are all Samoans, and we are also Samoans.”
Manu’a District Governor Misaalefua Hudson and Commissioner of Public Safety HTC Lefiti Falelaulii Pese spoke on behalf of the district to express their gratitude to the Governor, ASG and everyone who have made the Manu’a 120th Cession Day memorable.
Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega said he was loss for words on how proud he was to be present for the celebration.
There was an ava ceremony, a parade by government agencies, businesses and villages, and raising of the flags.
Rev. Elder Iosefa Autele in his sermon gave thanks to God for his love that has made it possible for Manu’a to celebrate 120 years since signing the Deed of Cession with the United States.
