The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the circulation of counterfeit bills after a fake $100 bill was discovered early this month.

The counterfeit bill was discovered by BlueSky among cash collections from various vendors on July 5. The company called the Department of Homeland Security to investigate and it was confirmed that the $100 bill was a counterfeit.

Due to the high volume of cash received by company reps at the various vendor sites, it was near impossible to trace back where the counterfeit note was from. Homeland Security has advised BlueSky to take precautions, such as using a counterfeit pen especially with larger denomination bills.

Homeland Security is investigating the possibility that other counterfeit bills are in circulation and the source.
