The Village of Alao of the Vaifanua District of Tutuila, plans to join the territory’s fautasi races in the future.
Led by High Chief Satele Lili’o, a renowned fautasi skipper, Alao has set in motion a plan to build a fautasi with the hope to enter the Flag Day fautasi race in 2025.
Alao’s council of chiefs has unanimously agreed to name its fautasi, “ALAO.”
High Chief Satele said, “For several years now, our village, including the late High Chief Sogimaletavai Herman Leo and the late High Talking Chief Lealaō Melila Purcell, has dreamed of owning a fautasi to provide our village’s young adults and youth today and tomorrow a positive and proudful outlet.”
Alao is presently looking at options to build and finance its fautasi.
“As with any such project, financing is key,” said HC Satele.
To that end, Alao has planned a siva of its village’s families as its first fundraiser. Alao’s siva will be held on July 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at the Alao malae. Anyone may join the siva via the Alao Fautasi Facebook page.
