
Eastern Power Solutions (EPS) in partnership with the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) broke ground for the American Samoa Solar and Storage project in the village of Pavaia’i, Friday.
Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga, Senate President Tuaolo M. Fruean, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and officials of Eastern Power Solutions and ASPA representatives, braved the pouring rain to witness the ceremony.
This project involves the development, design, construction, and operation of a 20 Megawatt solar photovoltaic system. Eastern Power Solutions, will oversee the maintenance and repair of the system upon its completion.
Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga acknowledged the enduring partnership between ASPA and Eastern Power Solutions and expressed appreciation for the legislature’s support.
He extended heartfelt thanks to the village leaders and community for their support of the project, emphasizing the sacred connection between the land and the people.
Governor Lemanu also addressed the pressing issue of climate change and rising temperatures, stressing the importance of advancing energy upgrades to alleviate financial burdens on the community. He acknowledged the challenges faced by people staying indoors due to warm weather in homes, classrooms (with efforts underway to provide air conditioning), and workplaces. Solar energy, he affirmed, holds promise in mitigating these challenges, particularly for future generations.
