Candidate for Governor Nikolao Pula officially announced High Chief Pulu Ae Ae Jr. as his running mate for Lt. Governor in the November general elections.
Pula made the announcement yesterday at the Afoa guesthouse in Utulei before a small group of supporters.
Pula said, “We need leaders who have faith in God, are humble and truly love the people.” He believed Pulu is one such leader.
The candidate for Governor said while Pulu holds a high chiefly title from Pago Pago, he joins the enforcement of the evening curfew or sa in the village…a testament of his sense of service and humility.
He said Pulu doesn’t say much or mince words, but speaks his mind. “He doesn’t flip flop, say one thing today and something different tomorrow.”
A graduate of the American Samoa High School, Pulu is a U.S. Army veteran, was a pulenuu for Pago Pago, and was a member of the House of Representatives. He currently heads the Field Office of Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata.
In his remarks, Pulu thanked Pula for considering him to be his running mate. He said it was a hard decision, but he quickly accepted thinking of how God called Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt where they were enslaved. “I was thinking this is a calling from God,” he said.
Pulu said the most important thing to him is to serve the public and do what is best for the people. “We are not in this race to seek riches” he said.
The Lt. Governor candidate said he will always stand for what is right. He told Pula if he doesn’t feel a decision he makes is right, he will fight for what is right.
