It hasn’t been in the news lately, but the new hospital project is moving forward.
The Chairman of the Steering Committee for the project, Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua confirms the project management contract for construction of the new hospital at Lions Park has been awarded to PIOA Consulting & Engineering Inc.
He said there were proposals from half a dozen companies, both, local and off island, and the committee decided on PIOA Consulting & Engineering.
Motusa says the contract amount and details are being finalized, and he would only confirm that PIOA has been awarded the project management contract.
A Honolulu-based company Architects Hawaii Ltd. is designing the new hospital which was initially proposed to be a 40-bed facility, but is reported to have been scaled down. ARPA funding of $200 million is allocated for the project.
