The Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Admiral Linda L. Fagan, arrived yesterday afternoon on an overnight visit. She is the very first woman to head any of the six branches of the United States Armed Forces.
USAF Veteran Fa’alagiga Nina Tuaau Glaude, liaison for the Afio Mai Air Mobility Command Pago Pago Station and Vice Chair of the Veterans Administration Advisory Committee of the US Outlying Areas and Freely Associated States said it was an hour to greet a female Admiral with such a long and outstanding record of service to our country.
The four-star Admiral with 37 years of service also served as the Commander of the Pacific Area. Admiral Fagan indicated that she felt very honored to be greeted by another US female veteran on this her first visit to American Samoa, and she hoped that this would not be her last.
Despite wet weather yesterday the Admiral visited with the Marine Patrol Unit and was greeted by the US Coast Guard local detachment, and a visiting Coast Guard team from Honolulu here to conduct training and maintain navigational aids.
Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata, who was present is hoping that local women veterans will be able to meet Admiral Fagan before she departs this morning.
