The Coast Guard cutter Harriet Lane arrived in port yesterday, and will be here until Saturday.
The cutter recently shifted its home port from Virginia to Honolulu to more easily support American Samoa and international partners in Oceania.
Samoana High School students were the first to tour the cutter, which is docked at the fuel pier, this morning. Coast Guard recruiters were at Samoana earlier promoting the benefits and opportunities of enlistment in this branch of the Armed Forces.
Other school groups are scheduled to visit during the open house, which ends at 1pm.
A band of musicians from the US Coast Guard Honolulu was also entertaining during the tours.
This is an opportunity for the people of American Samoa to get a closer look at one of the Coast Guard’s major cutters.
