Samoa’s Minister of Police, Faualo Harry Schuster, has told Parliament that police will not be filing charges against politicians and other members of the public implicated in an unresolved hit-and-run death in 2021.

“It needs credible evidence and other witnesses to support a complaint,” said the Minister.

The MP for Faleata No.3, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi was accused by supposed eye witness, Sam Sua, as being the driver of the vehicle involved in the 2021 hit and run.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries La’auli Leuatea Schmidt was unimpressed with the Police Minister’s statement.

La’auli said it is not easy to accept because he is still trying to swallow the allegations directed at him and former MP Vaele Paiaaua, who were also accused of the death.

He said the allegations were made by the opposition Human Rights Protection Party.

“When will we find the answer to this,” La’auli asked.

La’auli said if the path to find the truth is through private prosecution, then that will be pursued to confirm witnesses that were referred to the police on the matter.

The person of interest that police are looking for, Sam Su’a, went to La’auli claiming he was a witness to the death at Vaitele-fou in 2021.
