On Thursday, the House of Representatives approved by unanimous vote the Governor’s nomination of Ruth Matagi as a member of the Board of Directors of the Territorial Bank of American Samoa.

Vice Speaker Fetui Fetu moved that the vote be a show of hands, instead of a secret ballot.

All 14 members of the House present approved Ms. Matagi, who has been a member of the TBAS board since 2014.

In other news, from the House, Vice Speaker Fetui Fetu apologized to Swains Representative Su’a Alex Jennings for what happened the day before.

He told Su’a, “The Lord knows I don’t hold any grudge or bad feelings against you.” He asked his colleague to forgive him for any statements that hurt his feelings.

The Swains faipule said the Lord teaches forgiveness and there is no sin that God will not forgive. But at the same time, laws of the government must also be honored.

Su’a informed the Speaker that he will be traveling off island, and doesn’t know when he will be back because of the difficulty on getting flights back to the territory.

Su’a departed Thursday night to testify at the House Natural Resources Committee hearing, January 18, on HR 6062 which would remove congressional review and approval of changes to American Samoa’s Constitution.

Also attending the hearing will be Lt. Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale, Attorney General Fainuulelei Alailima Utu and the Fono’s Legislative Counsel Nathaniel Savali.
