Team American Samoa’s hopes for a medal in boxing at the Pacific Games were dashed after the only boxer with any regional competition experience came down with pneumonia.
Another boxer that the American Samoa Boxing Federation had invested in and had undergone training in Las Vegas for 3-years decided to box for Samoa.

On the official medal tally for the Pacific Games, American Samoa has 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. Though two bodybuilders, Monique McMoore and Olefa Dallen, were awarded bronze medals, their medals apparently don’t count in the official tally, because there were only 3 competitions in their divisions.
