The Annual Mental Health Summit opened Wednesday at the ASCC Multi-Purpose Center.

One of the key figures behind the establishment of the American Samoa Mental Health Partnership, that’s coordinating the annual summit, Dr. Eta McCutchan, said the discussion of issues—which were previously not brought out in the open relating to mental health, issues such as suicide—are putting attention on the problems and a resolve to provide help to the afflicted.

First Lady Ella Mauga was on the program to give remarks; however, she was unable to attend.

Dr. Julia Foifua gave brief remarks about the First Lady’s Dementia Friendly American Samoa Project to provide services for people with dementia and their families.
