The Rotary Club of Pago Pago spent last Saturday picking up trash along Lions Park, and donated trash bins for the park as part of its clean up effort.

About 100 Rotarians, Interact Club and Rotaract Club members turned out for the clean up.

StarKist Samoa donated 8 trash bins and these were mounted on stands to keep them off the ground and away from dogs.

Rotary Club President Cherith Lober Soliai said, “It puzzled many of us why there were no trash bins installed when the Lions Park was upgraded.

”As people of action, we decided on a solution…” and that is to provide 8 trash cans  for the area where the Samoan fales are.

The project was spearheaded by Rotarian Faafua Cummings, who secured the trash bins from StarKist Samoa. The Lions Club also  donated $500.

The Rotary Club hopes that the presence of trash bins will get park users to put their trash in them rather  than throwing them on the ground.
