Samoa Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo has voiced concern at the amount of methamphetamine being found in the country.

He was confirming the discovery of packets of the drug in a vehicle during a routine traffic inspection on Monday evening.

Police had pulled the vehicle over for a missing headlight and found packets, which Auapa’au said were bigger than usual.

He added that while police had not discovered a meth lab in Samoa, there’s concern at large amounts of the drug found in recent police raids.

The driver has been remanded in custody along with 16 other men arrested in two raids last week at Puipa’a and Moata’a.

Methamphetamine with a street value of $50,000 tālā and $23,000 tālā worth of cash and jewelry were found in a raid at a taxi stand at Moata’a.

A raid, last week, at Puipa’a netted drugs with an estimated street value of $50,000 tālā and live ammunition.
