A retired former Director of the Department of Human Resources and businesswoman, Mrs. Eseneiaso J. Liu, has been appointed by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga to the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of American Samoa.

She is being appointed to fill the term of the late Vaiausia Yandall, which ends March 31, 2024.

In a September 20 letter of nomination to the Senate President, the Governor said, “Ms. Liu is a retired public servant with more than 50 years of service to the American Samoa Government.

“She began her public service in 1968 with the Department of Legal Affairs and Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division. She, then, joined the Department of Human Resources where she served many positions over the years from Personnel Management Specialist to FEMA IFG Appeals Review Supervisor to, ultimately, Director before her retirement in 2020.

“It is this experience and capability that will make her a great asset to this board.”

Only Senate confirmation is required for members of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank.

If confirmed Mrs. Liu will be the fourth female member of the DBAS Board.

The others are Fiapa’pa’i Fruean, Eseta Sataua and Florida Tagomailelagi.

The Board is chaired by Sentaor Malaepule Saite Moliga and the other members are Rev. Tautua Fuiava, Rep. Manumaua Wayne Wilson, Tauanuu S. Tauanuu and Vaimaona F. Ialiva.
