Two members from American Samoa, Edna Asalele-Noga and Christine A. Le’iato, have been appointed by US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to the Pacific Regional Advisory Committee (RAC).
Secretary Cardona said, in the notification letter, that the objective of the RAC is to provide advice and recommendations regarding the educational needs of the Pacific region, and how those needs would be most effectively addressed, including technical assistance activities described in Section 203 of the Educational Technical Assistance Act (ETAA).
The ETAA authorizes the Comprehensive Centers program.
Each RAC is to submit a report to the Secretary of Education based on the assessment of education needs within each region.
The report will contain an analysis of the needs of the region and technical advice to the Secretary, regarding how those needs would be most effectively addressed.
The Secretary shall establish priorities for the Comprehensive Centers to address, taking into account these regional assessments, and other relevant regional surveys of educational needs to the extent the Secretary deems appropriate.
The term of service begins immediately and will end no later than 6-months, after each RAC is convened and subject to completion of the prescribed appointment procedures.
An Orientation and Ethics training for all appointees was completed during the RAC Administrative Meeting with USDE on August 29.
Director of Education Talauega Dr. Samasoni Asaeli offered congratulations to the local RAC members.
