The first of four super alia for the American Samoa Government was put in the water last week at the Armstrong Consolidated Incorporated (ACI) boat building facility in Port Townsend, Washington.
Photos of the super alia were posted on the Department of Commerce Facebook page. Work is still continuing on Super Alia #1 before it is delivered to the territory.
A $4.4 million grant from the US Economic Development Administration is financing the construction of the four super alia, which will support the growth of the local fishing fleet.
The plan is to use one vessel as a training platform while the other three will serve as business incubators for boat owners and crew. The price of one vessel is pegged at $726,874.
