KHJ News has been reporting on repeated escape of inmates from the Territorial Correctional Facility.
The escapes have increased since the transfer of the TCF from the Department of Public Safety to the new Department of Corrections. The regular break out of inmates are an issue of concern to residents.
Without any response from the Director Tauanuu Semu Faisiota and warden Papali’i Marion Fitisemanu to our inquiries, we asked for a statement from the Lemanu Talauega Administration on what is being done to prevent the inmates from escaping.
The Governor’s Office issued the following statement this morning.
“It is a top priority of Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga to maintain the safety and welfare of the citizens of American Samoa.
“Governor Lemanu is working with Director Tauanuu Semu Tauanuu and Warden Papali’i Marion Fitisemanu to ensure that those who are incarcerated at TCF are securely maintained in the facility and that the public is safe from any threats.”
