Fagatogo Representative Malaeoletalu Melesio Gurr has thanked the Acting Director of Education, Folau Faafetai Teofilo, and directors and staff who responded to his request on behalf of public school teachers whose salaries had not been adjusted to reflect degrees they obtained last December.

The first term Faipule wrote Folau last week, “I was I informed by some of the teachers that they received their pay adjustments this pay period. Thanks to you and other members of the Cabinet and staff involved for making this happen.”

Malaeoletalu noted that not all of the teachers have received their adjustments, but “I trust that it will happen soon. Thanks again!”

He added, “Please understand that I am a representative of the people and it’s my duty to find out answers and fight for my constituents. I don’t appreciate my email from a month ago being ignored.”

The lawmaker had first written to the Acting Director of Education in April saying that public school teachers, who graduated with Masters degrees from UH in December, had still not received pay adjustments.

Most of the graduates received hard copies of their degrees in March and had been told it would take one pay period before their salaries were adjusted to reflect their higher degrees.

He said some of his constituents were in this group.

But up to the time he sent his inquiry last month, they were still waiting for an adjustment.
