Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has paid tribute to all service men and women and their families and wishes them a happy United States Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20.

The Governor said, “Every man and woman in the uniformed services is at their post voluntarily to uphold the tenets and ideals of our democracy. Armed Forces Day is a day set apart to honor all our dedicated men and women who currently serve in the military. Per capita, more of our sons and daughters proudly wear the uniform of the United States Armed Forces than any other state or territory.”

Governor Lemanu says he has the greatest pleasure of honoring all the sons and daughters of American Samoa, “Who have dedicated themselves in service of our great Nation.”

“We shall never tire of paying tribute to all our servicemembers- the Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers. Regardless of your branch or rank, you represent the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; you are the symbol of the freedoms we enjoy. You are the face of our Territory.

“Today, and every day we salute each and every one of you and we pray for your safety, health, and well-being.”

On behalf of Lieutenant Governor Talauega and their families, Governor Lemanu commended all those who serve in the various branches. “We honor and we acknowledge the sacrifices and selfless devotion of all those who continue to serve, as well as their family members, without whom they would be unable to serve our country so honorably. We thank you all for your enduring commitment to defend our nation with unwavering resolve. You have our heartfelt thanks and admiration.

“Happy Armed Forces Day!”
