A delay in shipping has seen a shortage of chicken meat in Samoa with some customers claiming the cost of other meat, such as pork and beef, have increased.

Samoa Observer reports that 60 containers of chicken was imported monthly before COVID-19 caused havoc with shipping schedules.

The global pandemic over the last 2-3 years has directly impacted the supply chain, resulting in far-flung island nations like Samoa being hit by the late arrival of container ships.

One of the three main suppliers, Frankies Supermarket, confirmed there is a delay in shipping and they are expecting chicken in the next week from the United States.

There was no comment from other suppliers in Apia.
