
A letter from the Chairman of the LBJ Board of Directors, Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, announcing the appointment of Dr. Jean Anderson as Executive Director of the hospital, explains the functions of her position.
The Chairman cites that ASCA 13:0102(4) and (5) gives the board authority to hire and supervise employees as necessary to fulfill its duties.
“Exercising this authority, the Board of Directors has requested the continued service and support of Dr. Jean Anderson to serve as the Executive Director for the LBJ Board of Directors,” wrote the Chairman.
“Having demonstrated her commitment to both LBJ and the American Samoa community through her invaluable service as Vice Chair of the LBJ Board over the past two years, Dr. Anderson is ideally suited for this position.”
Dr. Tuiolosega continued, that the Board of Directors has determined that “[With] Dr. Anderson’s expertise in program consultation, development and support; extensive experience as a health care provider; and given the foundational knowledge and understanding afforded to her as a former board member, she is uniquely qualified to provide expert advice and consultation related to the operation of the Medical center to meet its obligations…”
Dr. Tuiolosega said that as the Executive Director to the LBJ Board of Directors, Dr. Anderson will provide direct support and assistance to the Board and LBJ leadership. In addition, she may serve as a liaison for the LBJ administration and leadership.
“Dr. Anderson will report directly to the board and perform duties and tasks as director by the board. Such duties may include but are not limited to providing technical assistance and support to the LBJ CEO, CMO and CFO, who are hired directly by the Board of Directors.”
The Chairman concludes, “The Board of Directors is honored that Dr. Anderson has accepted the board’s request, and appreciate her ongoing and unwavering commitment to LBJ.”
