Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has appointed Letitia Mautumua Peau Folau as Acting Executive Director of the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office (HPO), and as the Historic Preservation Office for the American Samoa Government.

The position became vacant after the Governor terminated the services of Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal, who has headed the Historic Preservation Office since 2021.

There’s been no official comments from the administration about Tuimalo’s termination but administration sources tell KHJ News that it’s related to his arrest on a driving under the Influence citation, a week ago, Friday.

He was served his termination letter last Wednesday.

A hearing on Tuimalo’s CUI citation in District Court is set for May 30.

The Acting HPO Director Peau Folau has been director of the agency, a division of the Governor’s Office, during the Lolo Lemanu Administration.
