Executive Director of ASG Shipyard Carlos Sanchez resigns

The Executive Director of the Ronald Reagan Marine Railway at Satala, Carlos Sanchez, has resigned.

Mr. Sanchez confirmed that he submitted his resignation two weeks ago, and it goes into effect today.

However, he declined to comment but assured KHJ News that he will be willing to talk next week.

Sanchez was appointed by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga as the new Executive Director of the Shipyard Services Authority in February 2021, and he has largely been credited for turning things around at the shipyard.

Recently, the cradle, which derailed a few years ago, was extended and strengthened. The shipyard has been able to carry out repairs of many vessels to the satisfaction of owners. Last Friday, saw the completion of the Samoa Government passenger and cargo vessel, Lady Samoa III and three more vessels from Samoa are scheduled to come here for repairs.

Sanchez said, his resignation was submitted to the Chairman of the Shipyard Services Authority Board, Senator Togiola Tulafono and it goes into effect today.

This was Sanchez’ second stint as Director of the shipyard. During the last term of the Togiola Faoa government, Sanchez was also in charge of the shipyard.
