The Governor’s Office has withdrawn the nomination of Dr. Victor Tofaeono as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Samoa Medical center, or LBJ Hospital.
Senate sources confirmed that the Office of the Senate President was notified yesterday that the nomination is being recalled, but no reason was given.
Efforts to get an explanation from Chief of Staff Loa Tuimavave Tauapai Laupola have not been successful,
Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga’s March 6 letter to the Senate President, nominating Dr. Tofaeono and asking for his confirmation, was received by the Senate on March 16 but, as of yesterday, a confirmation resolution had not been introduced in the Senate.
Tofaeono was to replace Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, whose term expired on March 3.
Some have asked why the Governor’s Office moved fast to name a replacement for Dr. Jean Anderson, whose term doesn’t end until March 30, yet delayed a replacement
for Dr. Tuiolosega, whose term has already expired.
The Senate has already confirmed Dr. Aifili John Tofa to replace Dr. Anderson on the hospital board.
