Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga says, the medical expertise of Dr. Victor Tofaeono will make him an outstanding member of the American Samoa Medical Center Board of Directors.

Dr. Tofaeono is being nominated to replace the current chairman of the Board, Malouamaua Dr. Tuiolosega.

The Governor wrote in a March 6 letter to the Senate President, which the Senate received on March 16, that since graduating from Boston University, Dr. Tofaeono’s professional life has been dedicated to serving the people of American Samoa. Upon completing his work at the City of Hope, he returned to American Samoa to work at the LBJ Hospital, first, as Chief of Surgery from 1972-1978 and, then, as Chief of Staff from 1977-1978.

Lemanu said that under Dr. Tofaeono’s tenur, the hospital increased the number and complexity of surgical procedures. He rejoined LBJ as Chief of Surgery, Assistant Medical Director, through 2008 and, later, as Chief Medical Officer until his retirement in 2010.
