The Chairman of the Senate Health Committee, Senator Tuiasina Laumoli, informed senators today of his meeting with Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and medical staff of the LBJ Hospital.

He said, the volunteer doctors from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, together with the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joseph Shumway, attended the meeting with Governor Lemanu and himself.

According to Senator Tuiasina, the doctors fully support the current board and leadership of the LBJ Hospital and the changes they have made for improvements at the hospital.

He said, the doctors also endorse the new hospital being planned to be built with ARPA money.

Tuiasina called on senators to support the plan for the new hospital saying, this is a God given opportunity for the territory. He also asked for their support of the current board and management.

The Committee Chairman did not say how Governor Lemanu reacted to the doctors and his stance.

Lemanu has already moved to replaced the Vice Chair of the hospital board.

This week, he submitted the nomination of Dr. Aifili John Tufa to replace Dr. Jean Anderson, whose term expires March 30.
