The President of the Journalists Association of Samoa, Lagi Keresoma, has questioned the legality of the Office of the Electoral Commissioner (OEC) banning all media coverage of the official count of last week’s Vaimauga 3 by-election.

TV1Samoa reports, when media turned up Saturday morning for the official count, they were turned away.

Efforts to contact the Electoral Commissioner, Tuiafelolo Alexander John Stanley, were unsuccessful.

Media contacted the Minister responsible for OEC, who said that he did not know why.

However, reporters later found out that the official count was ‘live’ on the OEC Facebook page.

There has still been no reaction from the Electoral Commissioner.
