Miss Papua New Guinea, 24-year old, Josie Nicholas is the new Miss Pacific Islands.

She was picked by a five-member panel of judges to wear the crown of the region’s female ambassador for the next year.

Ms. Nicholas is an accountant by profession and dabbles in fashion design and business.

She has previous experience with the regional pageant, as she was in charge of the wardrobe for the first Miss PNG to win the Miss Pacific, Leoshina Kariha, in 2018.

Miss PNG also won Talent and the People’s Choice Award, which was voted by the public.

Miss Samoa, Haylani Kuruppu, was first runner up and winner of the sarong while our own Miss American Samoa, Kauhani Fuimaono, was second runner up. Hani also won Traditional Wear and Miss Photogenic.

For her talent, she was literally hanging from the ceiling in an acrobatic act then sang. Her award winning traditional wear showed the flags of the Pacific island countries in a detachable cape which opened up to a slim fitting shell adorned full length dress.

Miss Solomon Islands, Tiare Haro, topped the interview and also won the national tourism award.
