Samoa’s Ministry of Health is investigating how a district hospital in Maasina village at Fagaloa, valued over SAT$300,000, is now being used as an animal farm.

Samoa Observer reports the Minister of Health, Valasi Tafito Selesele addressed the issue in parliament in response to Vaa-o-Fonoti MP, Mau’u Siaosi Puepuemai’s request for a new hospital at Fagaloa.

The minister said, during his inspections around government hospitals, he saw that the facility was overgrown with grass, and looks like an animal farmhouse because there were cows there.

He told Parliament, that the Tenders Board had no record of any tenders for the work.

Despite the investigations, Valasi has agreed to the MPs request for a new hospital.

He urged the MP to submit a formal letter to his office when a piece of land has been confirmed for the hospital to be built on.

According to Valasi, some members of the district were also concerned about the location of the old hospital, why it was stationed on the other side making it far for some of the residents.

He added that chiefs from the constituency requested if they can use the current building as a committee house, given that it’s no longer used for its original purpose.
