
Ballot boxes were transported from the Election Office under police escort around 4:30 this morning, to voting places through out Tutuila and Aunu’u.
Before that, a prayer service led by Catholic Deacon Lolesio Pauga of the St. Joseph’s Community at Fatuoaiga was held, asking for God’s protection for a peaceful election today.
Mr. Poe Mageo of the Election Office, together with Chief of Police Pouu’amea Tuaolo Supapo, called out each voting district and the assigned vehicle lined up for loading of ballot boxes. Then, the convoy of vehicles were on their way from the Election Office with a police unit leading.

Chief Election Officer, Dr. Lealofi Uiagalelei, is hopeful that voters will exercise their right to vote from 6am to 6pm today. There are 14,314 registered voters. Uiagalelei told KHJ News that about 1,200 have already voted absentee, both local and off-island. This includes Election Office staffers and poll watchers working today.
There are 41 voting booths in Tutuila, Aunu’u and Manu’a.
Election Office supervisors will be calling in results to the Election Office before 7pm, and the results will be announced on KVZK-TV as they are received. Our coverage of the midterm election will be aired on WVUV-103, also beginning at 7pm.
Uiagalelei estimates that all results will be out by 10pm at the latest. More staffers are being added to the larger voting districts to ensure that ballots are counted quicker than in the past.
The counting order will be American Samoa House of Representatives first, Congress, then the proposed constitutional amendments.
Election law requires all employers to grant two consecutive hours for employees, who are registered voters, to cast their ballots.
Alcohol sales and the serving of alcohol while polls are open from 6am to 6pm, are prohibited.
