The Lady Naomi will continue to make weekly trips between Apia and Pago Pago until the new vessel, Lady Samoa IX, is approved by the US Coast Guard.
The new ferry is to be christened and renamed Lady Naomi 60.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Samoa Shipping Corporation, Su’a Faafouina, corrected earlier media reports — that yesterday’s sailing of the Lady Naomi was its last on the inter-Samoa route.
By Su’a’s estimation, the new vessel won’t be ready to make its maiden voyage to Pago Pago until late next month.
Local agent for SSC, Polynesia Shipping, wants to assure travelers and exporters/importers that the Lady Naomi has a trip every week, and there’s no plans to retire it just yet.
