A workshop is set for tomorrow Wednesday, October 19th, at the ASCC Multipurpose Center from 12-1:30 PM with special guest speakers Dr. Aaron J. Salā, Ms. C. Makanani Salā and Ms. Tolua Samifua from Hawaii.

Dr. Salā, a graduate of South Pacific Academy, is the Executive Director of the 2024 Pacific Arts Festival which is to be held in Hawaii.

His wife, Makanani Salā, is the Executive Director of the Office of Culture and the Arts, City of Honolulu, and Ms. Samifua is publisher of Lady Pasifika magazine, Pacific Fashion Media and Latasi & Co.

A poster about their workshop says, “Storytelling is the greatest superpower that Pacific islanders hold. Our relationship to the land, to the ocean, to our histories and to each other has provided for us an infinite number of resources that, in turn, have helped us to make sense of the worlds in which we live.”

“In the contemporary era, Pacific island representation has so often been appropriated in ways that are not authentic to Pacific ways of knowing and of being. Considering the notion that authenticity is a multilayered and complex concept, we hold that to “be authentic” is a both an individual and a collective responsibility.

“Through this engagement, audience members will be challenged and empowered to reimagine how their stories can be told, to level-up their storytelling skills and to reimagine how their stories can be told—through video-game, motion-story design, and through interactive experiential learning.”

The general public is invited!
