
It’s the 13th anniversary of the September 29, 2009 earthquake and tsunami, one of the most tragic events in the territory’s recent history.
34 men, women and children perished in the early Tuesday morning disaster. Some of the bodies were never recovered.
The names of the victims are inscribed in a monument that was erected at Lions Park but has since been removed in the Lions Park Re-development.
Leone Village, which had the highest number of victims, has a Healing Garden dedicated to the victims.
Today, at the Disaster Resilience Summit, the victims and their families will be remembered.
