Being prepared year round for disasters was one of the points emphasized, by one of the speakers at the opening of the Disaster Resilience Summit yesterday.

Robert Pesapane, FEMA Region IX Recovery Division Director, pointed to the presence of an active disaster recovery team for the July king tides and flooding; and a monitoring and planning team for the Ta’u volcano; as evidence of the importance of year-round disaster readiness at home and in our communities.

The summit coincides with National Preparedness Month—an annual 30-day long effort to bolster disaster readiness.

Pesapane said, ready.gov was a useful resources to obtain simple and low cost ways we can be safe at home.
