The Oceania Tautua 4-H club at the American Samoa Community College 9ASCC) is now an officially recognized 4-H Club authorized to use the 4-H name and emblem.
The recognition is achieved through a 4-H Charter provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and signed by the Secretary of Agriculture’s designated representative. The charter was presented to the Oceania Tautua Club leader Edna Noga at a recent STEAM Expo hosted by ACNR.
The 4-H Youth Development Program is the youth outreach program of the ASCC-ACNR which is the Agriculture, Community and Natural Resources Extension Program at the American Samoa Community College.
The STEAM Summer Expo event was held at the Great Life United 684 Assembly of God Church in Leone. Booths and activities showcased arts and crafts such as elei, agricultural produce and services.
It was a joint effort by the Oceania Community Development Network, AS Department of Education, AS Department of Commerce, Amerika Samoa Council on Arts, Culture, and Humanities and the ASCC-ACNR 4-H Program.
ASCC-ACNR Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Program Manager Tialavea Molly Asifoa-Lagai said, “At ASCC-ACNR, we strongly believe in empowering and educating the youth of American Samoa.
“It is through the 4-H program and clubs that we provide positive youth development opportunities to meet the needs of young people and to further their development as self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society.”
