The Samoa National Provident Fund has officially opened its new offices on the big island of Savaii after more than two years of construction hampered by the measles epidemic and coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa congratulated the Board of Directors and management and staff for ensuring the $7,806,698 tālā project was completed despite the lockdowns and border closures.

She said it was fitting that Savai’i had new premises for SNPF as it celebrated 50 years of service to the country as well as the country commemorating 60 years of Independence.

The Apia offices of the fund were closed on Thursday as all staff converged on Savai’I to help open the new offices built by Schwartz Construction.

“The completion of this project has been affected by a lot of factors, but we are here today to witness the official opening and we are very pleased to be here for this occasion,” said Fiame.

Minister of Justice, Matamua Vasati Pulufana, who is also the member of parliament for Salelologa where the building is located, was given the honor to cut the ribbon to open the new two storey building.

The ground floor will house offices for SNPF as well as the Bank of the South Pacific and Immigration offices.

The top floor was purpose built as a conference facility.
