When will American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) have a new phone book?

It’s a question many have asked: When will ASTCA issue a new phone book?

Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean asked the question to Senator Utu Sila Poasa, during today’s Senate session.

Utu is vice chair of the ASTCA Board of Directors and is also chairman of the Senate Committee on ASTCA.

Utu replied that ASTCA is embroiled in a lawsuit with businessman John Newton, who produced the phone directory and a new book cannot be published during the litigation.

He added, the case has taken many years and is still unresolved.

However, ASTCA is looking at an online directory that can be accessed by people in the territory and those off island.

Tuaolo told him that the public needs a new phone directory. He said, every time customers call for a number, ASTCA charges 50 cents. He urged that the ASTCA Board come up with a solution and not to wait for the case with Newton to be settled.
