Fifty-one of the close to 1,000 Summer Youth Employment Program participants are learning on the job at the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA)
ASTCA CEO Chuck Leota welcomed the young men and women at an orientation on Tuesday morning where heads of the various divisions talked briefly about their areas of responsibilities. The participants were then given a choice of where to go based on their study and career paths.
Twenty-eight chose the Engineering Department, 12 went to the Marketing and Customer Service Department, and 11 chose the Retail and Corporate Sales Department.
They were reminded of this year’s theme with plenty of words of encouragement to empower them as future leaders of American Samoa. 
CEO Leota stated, “ASTCA is proud to be a part of the 2022 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) initiative as we do each year. We have gained many of our ASTCA employees through this program who have become valuable assets at ASTCA! And we look forward to these participants as we take them under our wings, and mentor them for the next 8 weeks to find potential talent and skill that can contribute to ASTCA’s growth”.
