Fautasi racing looks set to be resurrected during the annual Teuila Festival in September, this year.

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Police, this week, between Acting Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Keti and about 10 fautasi crew representatives to start preparations.

It has been close to six years since the last Fautasi regatta was held in Apia.

The Government has confirmed reviving the Fautasi Regatta, including the tulula or whaling boats rowed in the regatta by women crews. Canoes or paopao and va’aalo races are also planned.

The annual Teuila Festival is being revived after two years of COVID restrictions and will be a major part of the year round celebrations of the 60 years of Independence of Samoa.

It is not clear, if invitations will be extended to fautasi from American Samoa for this year’s regatta.
