In a separate order, the Governor issued notice to all county councils to appoint delegates for the 2022 Consitutional Convention. There will be a total of 129 delegates.

The number of delegates of each county is their population from the 2020 Census divided by 400.

Tuala-uta would have 48 delegates, Mauputasi 21 and Ituau 18.

Tuala-tai has 8, Fofo 7, Sua 6, Vaifanua, Lealataua and Leasina 4 each, Saole 3, and the rest of the counties have one delegate each.

All county councils are to submit in writing the names of their delegates to the Office of Political Status, Constitutional Review and Federal Relations by August 8th.

Governor Lemanu also gave non-binding guidelines for the county councils to follow in the selection of their delegates.

He said, “It is preferred to have delegates who are experienced in their communities and those with advanced education. It is in our best interest as a Territory to have broad representation including women, youth, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Councils should strive to appoint delegates who represent the demographics of their counties.”

The Governor encouraged all county councils to begin meeting to discuss and appoint their respective delegates to the Constitutional Convention.
