The Destruction of Lions Park

Dear Editor,

I have enjoyed eating picnic lunches at Lions Park every week while the restaurants are closed. We had a special spot at the last picnic shelter towards the swimming pool. It was a shady, breezy spot, which also sheltered us from the rain. We noticed numerous people also enjoying the park as a welcome break from their day.

I feel outraged that someone thought it was a good idea to raze all the shelters in the park, and at once! WHY????

Rumor has it that Samoan fales will be constructed in place of the square shelters. I think oval fales are beautiful, but will they fit a picnic table? Some of us old folks have trouble sitting on the ground now.

At the very least, I want to advocate for the planting of many more shade trees in all our public parks.

Thank you for listening,
