On Monday, the architect and construction manager for the new Fono building, Mark Lively, briefed and answered senators’ questions about the project.

The Senate Public Works Committee was particularly concerned about beams for the building, which appeared to fall short of specifications.

Senator Utu Sila Poasa was direct in his questioning of Lively.

Lively, who is based in Honolulu, revealed that his representative on the Fono job is John Goeke.

Utu said, he’s never seen Goeke at the site but vouched that he was a good choice due to wide experience in local construction projects.

Regarding the beams, Lively had this to say.

Lively said that there is a remedial plan to fix the defective beams which will take a few days to complete.

The contractor hopes to have the building substantially finished by the end of the year, which then it would take 3-4 months to fully complete the whole project.
