Circus Master leads boycott of Russian Vodka

Samoa’s circus master Tupa’i Bruno Loyale, has called for a nationwide ban on Russian vodka and wants other Pacific islands to join the campaign to protest against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Samoa Observer reports Tupa’i started his campaign on Facebook on Monday when he posted a flyer titled “Say No To Russian Vodka”.

“If you are a vodka drinker, please check the bottle before you buy, if it’s Russian Vodka then please don’t buy it, you will be helping Russia if you do,” said the flyer.

Tupa’i , who owns the Magic Circus of Samoa acknowledged that it is a simple way to show support for the people of Ukraine saying if Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu and others did it, it will make a “little bit of a dent”.

“Maybe not that much but a little bit.”

“You will feel better by just doing this small deed and showing your support!”

The ringmaster said he had been to Ukraine twice in line with his circus and found the people were kind and enjoyed everything including the circus where people from all over the world go to train.

He said he hoped more people would support his effort to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

“I think it’s at least one way to show that we care about those poor people, women, and children who are running for their lives,” he said.

“Can you imagine someone bombing Samoa and yet you would have to grab your kids and try to get to American Samoa or get out of here?”

“It will be horrible and that’s what they’re going through right now.”
