
A patient seen at the LBJ Hospital Emergency Room yesterday tested positive for coronavirus.
This was confirmed by Chief Epidemiologist for the Dept of Health, Dr Aifili John Tufa.
He said The manwho lives in Iliili had a cough and fever.
No other information was available about the case, as DOH had yet to interview the man.
This is believed to be the first coronavirus case to go through the LBJ hospital.
Two additional DOH staffers have also tested positive. Dr Tufa says the two attended a training on Personal Protective Equipment with the staffer that tested positive on Monday.
The two staffers are in isolation at the Alternate Care Facility in Tafuna.
Dr Tufa also released more information concerning the locations and events that the DOH staffer who tested positive on Monday and her family attended.
The family lives in Leone and in the first testing on Monday, 7 out of 8 family members tested positive.
The family has students who attend Leone High School. They were present at an event at the school last Friday which was also attended by the Governor and First Lady as well as the Speaker of the House.
The family attended church at the Voice of Christ Church in Nu’uuli behind Aveinas in Nuuuli.
The family is isolating at home.
The general information being released by DOH concerning the latest confirmed coronavirus cases is to help with contact tracing.
The Dept of Health is starting Covid testing at the clinics in Leone, Amouli and the Alternate Care Facility at Tafuna today from 8am to 2pm.
The testing will also available tomorrow and Friday as well.
Dr Tufa advices that if you are symptomatic, having symptoms of Covid such as a cough, fever, running nose, and know you were exposed to a recent traveler or someone who tested positive, come get tested.
If you are not sure but know you were exposed, come in. You will be assessed at the clinic.
