Carat Space Pasifika LLC is a new technology based company that’s opened in the territory.

The owners are Mr. David Alaga, and business partner Mr. Kapil Padwal who have developed a contact tracing system for Covid 19.

A press release from the company says the system uses a combination of wearables, geo-fencing, and an app for an incoming traveler to complete quarantine in the safety of their own homes.  This could decrease the stress on a traveler’s mental health and the cost of the current quarantine process.

“The system is only one piece of contact tracing, but a valuable one.  There are conditions that would need to be discussed and procedures to be put in place, but COVID-19 has shown our community is resilient and this could be the next step towards safely opening our borders”, said Mr. Alaga.

He is the son of Pulu Ae Ae, Jr., and worked as a Systems Engineer for ASTCA in the early 2000’s before relocating to Washington, DC, where he met Co-owner Mr. Kapil Padwal from India.

Carat Space Pasifika has over 20 years of experience with business, systems, and software development projects which includes cybersecurity, Robotic Processing Automation (RPA), and DevOps.  In 2021, they felt the desire to use their experience to help and support their native communities.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created many technology-based challenges globally but provided as many opportunities.  We feel it’s the right time for American Samoa to take part in these opportunities making it a potential hub for the rest of the Pacific”, said Mr. Padwal.

The business office is located in the Samoa Sports building in Utulei and inquiries can be sent to david.alaga@caratspace.com or visit the website at caratspace.com.
