
Nathan Crumpton may nnot be the first Olympian to go shirtless at an Olympics opening but he’s certainly the first to do so in sub freezing weather.
Thanks to his appearance in traditional wear at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games that American Samoa got a lot of mileage on the world scene.
93 KHJ got time with Crumpton after his final heat in skeleton on Saturday, courtesy of Hawaii-based photo journalist Barry Markowitz who’s covering the Games.

With a time of 4:06.80, Crumpton, who is American Samoa’s only athlete in Beijing finished 19th overall.
Although he failed to earn a medal, the result was not his only focus during the games. Crumpton recently declared his candidacy in the current election for one of two open spots on the International Olympic Committee athletes’ commission.
Crumpton has said he hopes to increase financial stability for Olympic athletes, who often have trouble affording the expensive costs of competition.
