Secretary of State Blinken stops to refuel

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken can say he’s been to American Samoa…to Pago Pago international Airport to be more specific.

His jet touched down at Tafuna at 11:14 am yesterday and it departed at 12:59pm. This was apparently a delay as the aircraft was supposed to be on the ground for one hour.

Sources tell KHJ News that this was just a refueling stop. Efforts to find out if the cabinet member deplaned were unsuccessful.

The Secretary of State is on a weeklong trip to Australia, Fiji and Hawaii for meetings aimed at pushing back against what the US calls “China”s growing economic and military coercion.”

Highlights of his trip include a meeting of the informal grouping of Australia, India, Japan and the United States known as the Quad, diplomatic efforts regarding North Korea and discussions on the concerns of Pacific Islands states where U.S. officials believe China wants to establish bases.
