With testing of those in quarantine at Tradewinds hHotel completed, the Department of Health reports that the number of positive coronavirus test results now stands at 39 from the January 27th flight:

  • 33 travelers
  • 6 quarantine staff

Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Aifili John Tufa says they are still assessing the results and may revise the positive cases upwards or downwards.

In the House today, Representative Avagafono Vaimaga Maiava urged that the House make a recommendation to the administration to delay future flights until the current quarantine situation is under control.

He said this would allow time for the health authorities to respond to the high number of positive coronavirus test results from the recent flight and implement extra measures to stop a possible spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Vice Speaker Fetu Fetui urged that the House write to the Governor to express concern with what is happening at the quarantine sites and whether the territory is adequately protected. He said they should seriously look at whether the TalofaPass system is effective and whether the vendor is a good company.

The chair of the House Health Committee, Rep. Andra Samoa briefed the House about the extension of quarantine for the travelers, the positive cases to date as well as the closing of day care centers to stop the spread of Respiratory Syncytial Virus.
